Forbes is out with its picks for the 600 best employers to work for in 2024. A fair number of hospitals have made the top 50 in two separate lists—large employers (more than 5,000 workers) and midsize employers (1,000 to 5,000 workers).
Working with market research firm Statista, Forbes arrived at its rankings by surveying more than 5,000 workers. Along with rating their respective employers, participants are asked whether they would recommend their employer to other workers.
Survey respondents included not only current employees but also former ones who left within the past two years as well as “individuals familiar with the company through friends, family or peers in their industry.”
The researchers gave greater weight to the first two of those categories. Newly this year, they also referred to data from the past three years, weighting more recent data more heavily. The idea there is to identify organizations that have consistently drawn high marks from their people over time.
Among large employers, hospitals meeting Forbes’s criteria include:

- 7. Houston Methodist
- 9. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, Tenn.)
- 10. The University of Kansas Health System
- 25. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
- 34. New York-Presbyterian Hospital
- 38. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York City)
- 42. Nationwide Children’s Hospital (Columbus, Ohio)
Making the list of top midsize employers are:
- 5. Jupiter Medical Center (Palm Beach County, Fla.)
- 12. Shriners Hospitals for Children (Tampa, Fla.)
- 17. Pikeville Medical Center (Pikeville, Ky.)
- 22. Hendricks Regional Health (Danville, Ind.)
- 25. Oklahoma Heart Hospital
- 40. Woman’s Hospital (Baton Rouge, Louisiana)
Also making the grade for 2024 are some companies and organizations operating in healthcare-adjacent fields, including social services and industry. Among these are Community Health Network in Indiana, the Alzheimer’s Association in Illinois, Vizient Inc. in Texas, Boys Town in Nebraska and the AARP in Washington, D.C.
