New app uses physiotherapy, accountability to encourage users in losing weight

A mobile application developed by Elite Akademy, an Australia-based physiotherapy clinic, uses physical therapy to help users achieve weight loss and fitness goals.

The Kinrgize application allows users to track health and fitness levels and provides a daily ranking based on information uploaded to the app, including exercises performed, intensity levels of workouts and sleep habits.

The exercises are chosen by qualified physical therapists, and the app holds users accountable to ensure they meet fitness and weight loss goals.

“Lack of accountability is a major reason why so many people start exercise programs and then quit,” said Kusal Goonewardena, founder of Elite Akademy, in a prepared statement. “There is a real need for fitness systems which track how you’ve done and show you how to improve.”

Another hurdle most fitness app users face, Goonewardena said, is they don’t know how to measure improvement levels. Kinrgize combats this as the measurement system has been designed by health professionals.
