Arkansas’ Medicaid work requirements are facing major problems. During the first month of implementation in June and July, more than 5,000 residents failed to follow through on reporting that they actually worked 80 hours during the month—the requirement to maintain eligibility for Medicaid—though many actually did meet this threshold, according to a new report from Arkansas’ Department of Human Services.
Failing to report work hours puts these people at risk of losing Medicaid coverage. State officials will be able to start kicking people off Medicaid in August if they continue to fail to report work hours, according to left-leaning Think Progress.
In July alone, only 844 residents satisfied the work requirement, which was implemented in June. Roughly 13,000 failed to report in July, out of approximately 43,000 residents subject to the new requirements.
The latest figures come as Arkansas and the Trump administration faces a new legal battle over the work requirements.
