CHIME announces new appointments to leadership positions

The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) has announced the newest appointments to its board of trustees, board of directors and elected officers for 2018.

Joining the board of trustees are Cynthia Peterson, Marc Chasin, MD, and Shafiq Rab, MD. Each will serve 3-year terms starting January 1, 2017.

  • Peterson brings 30 years of experience in leading health IT initiatives from her position as vice president and CIO at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital to the board. Peterson has worked to advance health IT by leading the implementation of a computerized provider order system and developing educational programs for CHIME. She also serves on the advisory board for the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Applications and is a member of the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Technology.
  • As vice president and CIO of St. Luke’s Health System, Chasin uses health IT to provide patients with the best care using technology. He increased the utilization of electronic health records and electronic prescribing across New York and is recognized for leading the implementation of EHR in this health system.
  • Rab, vice president and CIO at Hackensack University Medical Center, has utilized Apple HealthKit along with other communication systems and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources to bring better care and interoperability to its patients and clinicians

“We had an incredible slate of candidates this year, resulting in an extremely close election,” said CHIME Board Chair Marc Probst. “As our three newly-elected trustees have demonstrated at their own organizations, CIOs must be strategic partners in improving care across the continuum. The three of them bring a diverse set of experiences that will be valuable as the board continues to fulfill CHIME’s vision statement: Exceptional Leaders Transforming Healthcare.”

CHIME also announced its elected officers for the following year. The officers of 2018 include Cletis Earle, vice president and CIO of Kaleida Health, will be appointed to chair; Theresa Meadows, senior vice president and CIO of Cook Children’s Health Care System, will become treasurer; and Donna Roach, CIO at Via Christi Health-Ascension Information Services, has been appointed to secretary.

In addition to announcing its newest board of trustee members and officers, CHIME announced Carina Edwards as a member of its board of directors. The senior vice president of customer experience at Imprivata will serve a 4-year term starting January 1, 2017.
