HealthONE, a Colorado healthcare system, has developed virtual technology that helps reduce patient falls at the hospital, according to a report by KDVR.
Dubbed as “virtual sitters,” the technology is built with a camera and communication device. It’s placed in patient rooms and allows staff members to monitor patients remotely and watch for any issues. If an issue is detected, the staff can alert nurses or security to help the patient.
The virtual sitter has reduced patient falls to less than 1 percent of all admissions at one Colorado hospital, according to the report. It’s also HIPPA compliant.
“We have really reduced falls across the hospitals. We've allowed the nurses to have more eyes on the patients,” Andy Draper, HealthONE chief information officer, said in the report.
