Comcast is venturing into the health business with a new technology that aims to monitor people’s health at home, CNBC reported. The device has been likened to Amazon’s AI-powered voice technology Alexa.
However, unlike Amazon’s Alexa, Comcast’s device won’t be meant to be used as a communications or assistant tool. Like Alexa, it will have a personality and have the ability to make emergency phone calls for people if a health event is occurring.
Reportedly, Comcast is planning to pilot the system this year, with the intention to roll out the system next year. Comcast is already talking with hospitals to take on shared savings if the device can keep people out of the hospital, CNBC reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
