GoodRx, a telemedicine platform that helps patients find the cheapest prescription drugs and discounts, has been accused of sharing patient data with technology giants, including Google and Facebook.
Since the news broke––first reported by Consumer Reports––GoodRx announced it would stop sharing personal medical information with Facebook and ensure users can delete their data at some point.
According to the report, GoodRx sent personal details of users to 20 other internet companies, which would receive the names of the medications that users were searching and other details that could identify their devices.
The report comes at a time when patient data privacy is a top concern. Other partnerships between healthcare providers and insurers and internet giants have raised eyebrows and even caught the attention of Congress.
