Despite growing support for a Medicare for All system among Democrats, HHS Secretary Alex Azar blasted such an idea during a speech in Tennessee this week, The Hill reported.
“When you drill down into the details, it’s clear that Medicare for all is a misnomer,” he said. “What’s really being proposed is a single government system for every American that won’t resemble Medicare at all.”
Azar claimed Medicare for All would take away consumer choices and provide a single government plan. CMS Administrator Seema Verma has also stated her opposition to Medicare for All, calling it socialized medicine.
In addition to slamming Medicare for All, Azar praised President Trump for helping the healthcare marketplace lower premiums. Experts content premiums will only decrease slightly in 2019 because they were so high in 2018.
