Tiffany Capeles has been named chief equity officer for Intermountain Healthcare––the first such role for the Salt Lake City-based health system.
Capeles is a nationally recognized diversity leader, most recently serving as director of health equity, diversity, and inclusion at Christus Health, an international health system based in Texas. During her tenure at Christus, the organization received numerous national awards, designations, and recognition in the areas of health equity, diversity and inclusion, according to a press release from Intermountain.
Health Exec Summary
Chief equity officer is a rising role across industries. Healthcare organizations and companies have increasingly focused on adding equity to their c-suite over the past few years. The American Medical Association hired Aletha Maybank, MD, MPH, as its first-ever chief health equity officer in 2019, while Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Mass General Brigham, CVS Health, University of Illinois Hospital and Health System, Partners Healthcare and many more have named executives for similar roles in the past few years, some for the very first time.
Capeles has also received honors, including a career achievement award from National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives last year. In 2020, she was named as one of the Top 25 emerging leaders by Modern Healthcare, and she received the 2019 Tomorrow’s Leaders Award by the Catholic Healthcare Association. Prior to her time at Christus, she served in multiple roles at Children’s Health in Texas and Adventist HealthCare in Maryland.
”Tiffany’s informed approach and experience align well with our four pillars as we advance equity for our patients, members, caregivers, and communities,” Mikelle Moore, Intermountain senior vice president and chief community health officer, said in the press release. “She will provide visionary leadership that will continue our focus on equity as a social determinant of health to help people live the healthiest lives possible.”
