The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, is partnering with FundamentalVR, a virtual reality (VR) training and data analysis technology platform in London, to develop several surgical VR simulation and educational products.
Through the three-year strategic alliance and joint development agreement, FundamentalVR will work with Mayo Clinic surgeons, clinical practitioners, data scientists and simulation specialists to create simulation content, assessment criteria and validation tools for its surgical simulator for its Fundamental Surgery, the company’s haptic and VR medical simulation platform.
Mayo Clinic, one of the nation's top hospital systems, has undertaken several new partnerships as of late related to technology innovations, including machine learning.
The Fundamental Surgery platform is already live in Mayo Clinic’s simulation centers located in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota.
The agreement will first focus in the general surgery area and later move into robotic and patient specific simulation, according to a press release.
“Mayo Clinic and FundamentalVR are both ultimately focused on improving patient outcomes and with this in mind we share the belief that the comparative data insight and measurement available through our platform will have a profoundly positive impact on the wellbeing of people around the world,” FundamentalVR CEO Richard Vincent said in a statement.
