Several healthcare names have cracked the rankings of the top franchises in 2021 by Franchise Times.
The rankings outline the top 400 U.S.-based franchise systems based on systemwide sales from the previous year. The healthcare and medical segment grew sales by 9.2% in 2020, up from 6% in the prior year. However, that is down from the 14.5% growth mark seen two years ago.
Here are the highest-ranking healthcare franchises and their overall rank on the Top 400 Franchises list:
41. Home Instead Senior Care

Many in-home care companies made the list. The space has seen rapid consolidation over the years as demand for such care has risen.
"Even before the pandemic, demand for home-based healthcare and related services was already outpacing available resources, and the industry is only expected to accelerate in the coming years,” Jennifer Sheets, interim HealthCare CEO and president, said in a statement. “Through our unrivaled network of newly joined and multi-generational home health franchise owners and operators, we at Interim HealthCare stand ready to further support our complex healthcare ecosystem."
COVID-19’s impact on nursing homes also led many seniors to desire care from home. However, not all in-home care companies saw success in 2020, and some companies even posted declines in sales.
“There were temporary changes made during the pandemic to allow what was termed hospitals without walls, to allow services to be reimbursed into the home,” Shelly Sun, CEO of BrightStar Care, said in the rankings. “We want those expanded and we want those permanent.”
