About 60 information technology employees have been laid off by Northwestern Medicine after helping create a new electronic health records (EHR) platform, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune.
On Monday, Aug. 6, Northwestern Medicine informed about 60 members of its IT workforce that their positions were being eliminated as of Sept. 1, while other workers were moved laterally to new roles.
The hospital recently completed a massive technology project that “provides doctors and clinicians a unified electronic platform for patient health records across the entire Northwestern Medicine system,” according to the Chicago Tribune report. The project took three years to develop and went live in March.
