Oscar Health has teamed up with Georgia-based hospital system Emory Healthcare to offer technology-connected health insurance and care at more than 250 provider locations in Georgia beginning 2022.
The partnership brings a new health insurance option to patients seeking care at Emory Healthcare metro Atlanta and Columbus, Georgia. The two providers will offer individual and family health insurance plans in the state with a technology-first focus.
The insurance offering will combine Emory’s provider network of clinically integrated care with Oscar Health’s consumer-centric and technology-driven approach to customer service and care navigation. Oscar, based in New York, is the first health insurance company built on a full stack technology platform.
“Emory Healthcare is pleased to collaborate with Oscar Health to offer an additional, high-quality health care plan for consumers at Emory locations throughout the state,” Jonathan S. Lewin, MD, CEO of Emory Healthcare, said in a statement. “Oscar’s reputation of providing technology-driven insurance plans gives consumers another choice when deciding upon health care plans for themselves or their families.”
The new offering comes at a time when many Americans lost health insurance coverage as a result of job loss during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Biden administration established a special enrollment period (SEP) in early 2021, which enabled 2.8 million people to sign up for coverage under the healthcare exchanges. Oscar and Emory’s health insurance product will be sold on the federal health insurance exchange during the open enrollment period, with coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2022.
