Walmart Health has added a new state to its operations, opening four new Walmart Health centers in Oklahoma.
The centers, which are located around the Oklahoma City area, represent the third new state that Walmart Health is entering in 2024, after adding operations in Arizona and Missouiri, as well as expanding its presence in Texas. Walmart Health, which launched in 2019, offers many primary care services, as well as urgent care, labs, X-ray and diagnostics, behavioral health, dental and hearing services, in facilities next to Walmart Supercenters.
The state-of-the-art facilities in Oklahoma will offer Walmart Health’s full suite of health services in approximately 5,750-square-foot centers. Walmart currently has a presence of 1,354 retail locations and just under 35,000 associates in Oklahoma.
“Walmart Health exists to help Walmart customers live better by providing convenient access to affordable, high quality healthcare services for both insured and uninsured Oklahomans alike. Knowing that access to comprehensive primary care, dental care, and behavioral health services is a challenge in many communities, it is our hope that this one-stop model will help solve this challenge for our neighbors in Oklahoma City,” David Carmouche, MD, senior vice president of omnichannel care offerings at Walmart, said in a statement. “Providing these services in a place where many already live and shop and co-locating them by pharmacy and vision services and next to healthy foods in the Walmart grocery section is intentional. We can coordinate unique and impactful healthcare experiences.”
The new locations will be equipped with modern technology, according to Walmart, including Epic’s electronic health record system. Walmart Health originally partnered with Epic in 2021 for all its health services centers.
Walmart’s added presence in Oklahoma comes at a time when the state is in big need of physicians. According to Walmart, Oklahoma ranks 43rd in the nation for the number of physicians per capita. Walmart Health offers its customers a staff of qualified doctors, dentists, behavioral health specialists, community health workers and more, and the retail giant has already begun hiring for select positions at these new centers, including primary care physicians and dentists.
